Money Talks - One Off

Big Idea:

Stewardship Over Ownership: God entrusts us with resources to spend, save, and give in ways that honor Him, not to chase fulfillment in wealth but to find it in trusting His provision.

Key Text:

Deuteronomy 8:17-18

17 You may say to yourself, “My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me.” 18 But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today.

Discussion Questions:

  1. What’s one thing you’ve spent money on that you thought would make you happy but didn’t in the end? Why do you think chasing “stuff” often leaves us unsatisfied, and how does that connect to what God offers instead, like in Isaiah 55:1-2?

  2. If you had to give up control of your money—or even your phone or social media—to someone else, how hard would that be for you? What does that say about trusting God with the things you value most?

  3. The sermon mentions Joseph saving during abundance to help others later. Imagine you’re in his shoes today—how would you decide what to save or give away, especially when you see friends or strangers in need? Where’s the line between being wise and being selfish?

  4. One student said, ‘Money is an idol we’re all forced to worship.’ Do you agree or disagree? How do you see money acting like an idol in your life or among your peers, and what might it look like to ‘dethrone’ it?

  5. God doesn’t promise riches but promises to provide. What do you think ‘provision’ really means—especially when life feels unfair or you don’t get what you want? How would knowing God’s heart better change the way you deal with money?
